Hello =)
My name is Eli,
My Partner and I are looking to Move to Eugene either Jan1st or Feb1st,
we are both going to be going back to school at Lane CC, and are hoping to find some housing before hand so we can orient ourselves with the city and its surroundings,

We are looking for 1-2 Bedrooms in the $400-800 range,
hopefully with a garden area and somewhere to park small truck/camper (we use to vend in different towns when working)(only 20ft long and can fit in any normal parking space)
we both are artist/crafters, We will be vending alot in Portland and other cities in the area a few times a month, so we will need some workspace for our crafts,
maybe one of the bedrooms, or a storage shed we can do Art in,
I do leather work & photography as my main profession, but have interests in glass/metalwork and will be taking some classes on those, and I also work with bamboo and sustainable building projects. I am also in kayaking, fire performance, circus acts, violin, middle eastern drumming, yoga, and all sorts of other things
My Partner Gwen is a crochet artist who makes all sorts of cozy items that we vend wherever we can find a place to, she will be going to school for textiles and massage therapy.

We have been together for a few years, most of that in a RV traveling from faire to faire vending, and we live very well together, so we wont have any drama to bring to the household, we are looking for some open minded people who are ok with living with lively artists,
we are not loud folk, altho I have picked up the violin recently (I want to play in a gypsy punk band) but ill practice when it wont bother anyone or no ones around, I dont mind walking to the park to practice either lol..

We have a small kitten named Mara, Shes 2 1/2 years old, very well behaved and short haired, She even goes on walks with us to the park and store sometimes, (she spent most of her life in a RV traveling and walking in different parks)

Anyways, we just wanted to put this out and see if anyone has some housing,

The lessons will be fairly casual. There will be lots of fire toys to try out and lots of people who know how to use them!

First around seven we will group up according to discipline and help each other out inside the padded gym with mirror walls. Bring any toys you want to play with to practice object manipulation. Staff, Poi, Juggling, Contact Juggling, Devil Stix, hoops, Footbag, WHATEVER. I will be bringing LOTS of fun GLOW TOYS to practice indoors with. We can all have some fun and learn from each other.

Then around 8:00 we will be taking it outside to the parking lot to light up!

Bring WHITE GAS if you have any and want to burn. I will provide a limited amount to share.

FREE FIRE SHOW AT 8:00 in Core Star Gym parking lot!!

I have several practice toys and fire toys so come down and try them out!

See how fire toys are made and experience the rush of fire spinning around you!

The session will be FREE, but there will be a donation basket to cover the cost of gas and renting the gym space for the night.

Additional information about the dance style:

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance is a specific style of belly dance that stems from American Tribal Style belly dance, or ATS. ATS was created by Carolina Nericcio in San Francisco in the 1970's. This style of belly dance incorporates traditional Egyptian Belly Dance with movements, costuming, and music from other sources such as Morrocco, India, Persia, Turkey, and other North African and Middle Eastern cultures. ATS is an improvisational style of dance done in groups, with a lead-and-follow format. Tribal Fusion differs from ATS in that it does not follow the same rigid set of rules. Tribal Fusion dancers often use an improvisational format as well, but the music, costuming and movement sources are as varied as the performers themselves. Anything from Hip Hop or theatrical elements to Eastern European/Balkan influences may be fused with traditional belly dance movements to create an entirely new experience that is unique to those performers.

The dancers in this all-fusion show encompass a broad range of fusion styles:

Luminessah is a World Interpretive dance troupe founded in 2005 in Eugene, Oregon by Ali Armstrong, LeeAnn Myers, Lila McDaniel and Jeannie Anderson. They fuse movements from such regions as India, Turkey, Egypt, and North Africa, throw in some hip hop and vaudeville stylings, and tie it all together through an Improvisational Tribal Style of dance. Their performances are unique artistic creations that through ritual, theatre, and improvisation transport the viewer. They regularly perform throughout the West Coast at festivals, restaurants, and other dance events with musicians such as Raquy and the Cavemen, Gypsy Moon, The Conjugal Visitors, Americanistan, and more. Their workshops are in demand around the state and their regular class sessions in Eugene have resulted in the formation of a student troupe as well.

The Bijou Project was founded in 2005 by co-directors Kamini and Samara in Bend, Oregon. Their 20+ years of combined dance and teaching experience has culminated in the creation of their own unique style of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance.
The dance style of the Bijou Project has its origins in classic American Tribal Style (ATS) belly dance, which most evident in their posture and cued improvisational dancing. Their fusion approach expands upon the traditional ATS repertoire by incorporating movements, gestures, music and props from a variety of dance forms. Amy Peccia teaches & performs Tribal Style Belly Dance with a touch of funk. She has studied & danced with a variety of dancers, gathering techniques & stylings along the way. Her desire to try new things has fostered a diverse style. Amy’s classes are based on Tribal technique; infused with modern, hip-hop, spanish styling, & yoga.

Rachael Blanchard has always loved to dance. Professionally trained in classical ballet from the age of 3 she performed with principals from the Houston Ballet Company at the age of 9. While traveling with her parents in Micronesia and Indonesia, she became fascinated with the stylized movements of traditional Balinese and West Pacific dances. With a costume designer as her mother, she spent many hours watching rehearsals and performances. It took watching just one belly dance performance for her to know she had found her dance passion. Today she brings to her dance all of the cultural and creative influences from her life.

Hello,
my names Eli,
just had a cupple of questions,
my partner and I will be traveling up into OR sometime around spring,
our goal is to find a town to move to and start our next step in life.
Iv lived in So-cal for most of the last 25 years of my life, and Im in a position where I can go anywhere and do anything, so thats what I want to do =)

how hard is it too find houseing in the area?
We have a 1 year old cat that we would be bringing with us,
and I have a 21ft toyota dolphin RV' to bring with us as well, (for when we are vending during the festival season)
im hopeing having a Rv in OR wont be as much of a problem as it is down here...
here in so Cal, I get the cops called on parking the RV at least once a month and get hassled by many many people when we are traveling and parking it on surface streets at friends houses.

anyways, sorry to ramble on,
but Eugene is somewhere we are extreamly interested in!. is there a good time to visit in the spring? and events or festivals around then?

another Eugene question: medical marijuana

Hi all --

Spouse & self are planning a move North early next year. He has a prescription for medical marijuana. Our understanding is that Oregon doesn't have dispensaries the way we have here in the Bay Area, but that it's OK for him to a grow a little for his own use... true? If so, what happens during the months it would take him to establish a crop? There surely must be some accommodation for people whose health or housing doesn't allow them to grow their own, but it's not clear what it is. Can anybody help explain this to us?

Spouse & I are definitely moving to Eugene early in '09. We're really impressed with the manufactured homes we toured up there, but have been unable to locate anyplace to put one. Criteria: at least 1/4 acre; utilities in place; not zoned for "no manufactured homes"; in the hills (well away from the floodplain) but relatively level; within about 10 minutes' drive of major services like grocery stores and pharmacies; $125K or less.

A lesser but still discussable possibility would be leasing land from someone who has a large parcel and could use the extra income.

If you know anyone who has land like this and would like to sell or lease it to a couple of responsible, domestically inclined, queer middle-aged writer/activists, please put them in touch with me ASAP -- verdie@earthlink.net.

lost - 2 fire staves early sunday morning ( 12th and taylor court )

So ya, I shouldnt have left them outside of our house early sunday morning. Womp.
They were made of electrical conduit ( about 4.5 ft long ), with 2 inch wicking on the ends held on by 2 screws each. Black electrical tape for gripping with bright green gaffers tape at the edges and red tape at the very center.
Just finished them last week and burned them only once so they will still look pretty new.
I cant afford to make or buy new ones so any help would be super wonderful.

Hello my new villagemates. I'm moving from NE Portland, where I almost managed to settled down for once, to Eugene for a graduate program.
I pretty much need to be moved in by June 19th. I foresee moving back to ptown in August 2009. I'm a 30-year-old male with new interests every day, positivity and less ego is the way for me right now. I come with a 7.5-year-old female husky. I could rent alone or share with the right people.
I just joined tribe.net, and have since been told about the Eugene tribe. This doesn't mean to come off as a craigslist rip-off for me.
i'm totally excited for any other insights or words of welcoming wisdom :)

A sleep-deprived theatre director undergoes hypnotic regression to stop a reoccurring nightmare and unexpectedly participates in an ancient dreamtime ritual that sends him through the labyrinths of madness and transcendence in Antero Alli's surrealistic journey, "The Invisible Forest". Inspired by the radical ideas of French playwright Antonin Artaud, the filmmaker also borrows from Rimbaud's poetics of delirium for the "deliberate disorientation of the senses" to achieve a series of altered states. In Alli's own words, "Cinema is a drug. Cougar Hotsprings Update

Okay, so I went up about a week n' a half ago and here's the deal:
Boulders. Big Boulders almost the size of my car on the road, driving over and under/ hopping out and moving fallen trees. There is lots of snow on the road, but tracks going through it, you slide around a bit... It just snowed a bunch last night, so I figure that it may be less friendly than when I went.

The spring itself was pretty bad, too. There were two syphon tubes. One was still functioning but in the coldwater creek and rocked in place. It was a bit too dark for me to figure out what the flip it was supposed to be doing, but I figured that the small percentage of people who (a) know how to use syphon tubes and (b) would muck around in the ice water to do it must know what they're doing. My friends and I set up the other tube and after about an hour it was warm enough for three people to be comfortable right next to the opening. It wasn't hot.

There was broken glass in several places, although I didn't find any in the pool. Some drunk idiot had, once again, been moving rocks and the water table and the creek are higher from all the rain, thus there were veritable waterfalls of cold creek water leeching into the pool.
I vote work party with concrete, lots of it. Enough to keep even the most annoying intoxicated person from EVER moving the rocks and ruining it for us all again....

my van and i need a place to chill

hey guys, im searching for a place to park my van while my dog Loki and i stay in it. im hoping for a place with some yard, or property. Loki is a sweet guy who minds himself well. oh and me...sometimes (just joking) I would pay a fee to use utilities (i love to cook so use of a kitchen every now and again would be great, shower, laundry) anyways im a massage therapist working on getting my license, i take care of people with developmental disabilites. trade would be great every now and again to lower pay. please let me know if you know of anyone, or if you have a space.

I'd just love to let y'all in on a glorious little happenin' that occurs at the Morning Glory Cafe, usually on the last thursday of every month. Several of my dear friends and I coordinate an open mic, which has been going on for several years. The space is totally nonformal and most of the audience are also there to speak, so it's a great place to get over that stage fright that supposedly scares US people more than terrorism (imagine that!) So, come poets and comedians, actors and singers, anybody who likes to (or wants to learn to like to) perform! Come to watch, too, if you want to be inspired by your neighbors and by the gargantuan talent of today's young people.

Escape Plans Unlimited is proud to announce their second workshop in the Creative Deconstruction series.

The newest workshop in the series is entitled "The Life Force Moves."

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore your mind and body in greater depth than you may have previously thought possible. Join Jack Wild as he guides you through a series of body movements and expressions, all designed to give you a deeper sense of the life force moving within and around you.

You will learn an abundance of body movements and expressions that you may use for the rest of your life.

Just a few of the benefits of this work are:

-richer experience of the forces at play in your body and mind

-a deeper appreciation of your own body

One final note: this work can be physically and mentally strenuous, in a manner similar to hatha yoga. As such, it is recommended that you take any precautions necessary before undertaking this, or any course of strenuous activity. When doing new physical exercises, be gentle and be sure to stop immediately if you experience pain.

The end of Free Speech in America has arrived at our doorstep. It's a new law called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and it is worded in a clever way that could allow the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate any individual who speaks out against the Bush Administration, the war on Iraq, the Department of Homeland Security or any government agency (including the FDA). The law has already passed the House on a traitorous vote of 405 to 6, and it is now being considered in the Senate where a vote is imminent. All over the internet, intelligent people who care about freedom are speaking out against this extremely dangerous law: Philip Giraldi at the Huffington Post, Declan McCullagh at CNET's News.com, Kathryn Smith at OpEdNews.com, and of course Alex Jones at PrisonPlanet.com

This bill is the beginning of the end of Free Speech in America. If it passes, all the information sources you know and trust could be shut down and their authors imprisoned. NewsTarget could be taken offline and I could be arrested as a "terrorist." Jeff Rense at www.Rense.com could be labeled a "terrorist" and arrested. Byron Richards, Len Horowitz, Paul Craig Roberts, Greg Palast, Ron Paul and even Al Gore could all be arrested, silenced and incarcerated. This is not an exaggeration. The bill states:

‘...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs...

Note that this means the "planned use of force to promote a political or social belief" would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of "force," of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, "force" could mean:

• A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
• A non-violent street protest
• A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
• A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
• A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency

You get the idea. "Force" could be defined as practically anything. And since the "planned use of force" would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

If you stopped someone on the street and handed them a Bible, for example, this could be considered an act of terrorism ("...use of force to promote the individual's religious beliefs...")

If you sent a barrage of angry letters to Washington about global warming and the destruction of the environment by the U.S. military, this could also be considered an act of terrorism ("...to promote the individual's political beliefs...")

If you believe in same-sex marriage and you wrote a letter threatning a sit-in protest in front of your state's capitol building, this could also be considered an act of terrorism, even if you never carried it out! ("...planned use of force to promote a social belief...")

The United States is on the fast track to fascism, and the Congress is working right alongside this nation's traitorous leaders to criminalize any thoughts, words or speeches that disagree with current government policies regarding war, terrorism, domestic surveillance and civil liberties. Simply speaking out against the war on Iraq could soon be labeled a crime. Merely thinking thoughts against the war on Iraq could be considered a criminal act.

Labyrinth at the Bijou

For those who don't know....

The Bijou Theatre is playing the 1986 fantasy film classic "Labyrinth" (David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, Henson studios, Froud design) starting Thanksgiving weekend Fri-Sun latenite, and the following weekend as well. This is my favorite movie of all time! I'm spreading the news because they don't seem to be advertising, and I know that *I* would want to hear about it! Plus, they said if they get a good turnout, they'd start playing other 80's fantasy movies. Yay!

I don’t know if any of you heard of the Joshua Tree Music Festival in Cali…but the same fella has put together another festival- Check out their myspace page. The 2nd annual Joshua Tree Roots Music Festival is happening October 20 and 21 at the Joshua Tree Lake Campground, in the shadows of the infamous National Park. This rootsicana newgrassy folkadelic experience is for music loving souls of all ages. The music is continuous, alternating on two stages in one bowl, creating an intimate festival experience. Temperatures in the magical Mojave desert in October are ideal!

The festival lineup includes The Avett Brothers, Hot Buttered Rum, Uncle Earl, The Greencards, Dan Bern, South Austin Jug Band, Jake Shimabukuro, Martha Scanlan, Merle Jagger & Tim Easton, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, the Everybodyfields, Bluehouse, Honky Tonk Train, and the Trespassers.

I'm hooping at the DNA Lounge in SF on Oct 19. It's an "Oktoberfest" burlesque show, and I'll be a variety act ... but still in the "Oktoberfest" theme. Right now, the missing link for my costume is an alpine hat. I think I could approximate something, just using a men's hat that looks *something* like any of these (especially if the hat owner didn't mind me adding a feather to the side for one night):

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way Down From the Butte....

At the TOP of Spencer's Butte, a little adolescent female kitty meowed. So skinny, swollen nipples, VERY friendly. I said to her, "oh kitty, if you come home with me I'll make sure you're safe and fed and I'll give you water too!" She followed me the entire way down the mountain!!!!(well, to the parking lot). I admit that I carried her a bit of the way because she was not keeping up with us - but trying. Whenever we got too far ahead, she yowled. I mean, I was amazed. I was worried that she may be leaving kittens, even though she was so young and skinny, but she willingly followed me and even let me carry her some of the way.

Unfortunately, I got home and house mate had a fit! "NO CATS!" Even if I could swing it (after much prodding), she could only be an outside cat and this kitty is definitely a house cat. I'm going to have her spayed and want to find her a good sweet home. Waddya think? Huh, very sweet, just wants love, good with kids.....

I miss home.. I miss cosmic pizza.. vegan and wheat free..
I miss the bijou.... and the kiva... and the river bike path where I used to run my dog each morning and commute on my bike to school..

I miss the ridgeline trail........ and the three sisters wilderness area... and the rock columns on the butte ooo and the crux rock gym
and the parties at the dojo.. dance till the break of dawn................
I miss my home after being gone two years......

Happy 4th of July~
As many people celebrate their 4th of July, things will be different in my family. Fireworks no longer hold the same appeal after I found my daughter shrinking into a ball. She heard the loud noises that remind her of Iraq and what it was like to be directly in a combat zone. No fireworks for me or many of my friends who have loved ones that are combat veterans.
Although my family does not drink beer, we all usually associate beer with the 4th of July. My husband is a member of Teamster Union Local 206. The Union members that work for a company called Western Beverage after MONTHS of negotiations decided to go on strike. There was no real negotiations with the company because their main objective was to get the Union out of their company. This would help them join the rest of "American" big business and slash workers benefits and do what they want with their employees. Our Teamsters went into these negotiations to fight a battle that was impossible to win. Western Beverage delivers for Anheuser-Busch company ie: BUDWEISER beer.
When I told my daughter Suzanne about this, she said to me, "Isn't that what America stands for, protecting workers rights?" I replied that is exactly right. American unions, like Teamsters, are there for a reason: to protect our workers. When big business tries to intimidate and bully them out, it is not only un-American, it is the most un-patriotic thing I have ever been witness to. Pension plans and solid health care benefits should not be up for discussion, they should be available to all Americans and not something you bargain with.
As I was picketing Western Beverage with my husband, one of the Western Beverage security guards attacked one of the other wives that was there supporting her husband. The Security Guard grabbed her by the hair and sprayed pepper spray in her face. Once again, is this an American value? Pepper spraying a woman because she is standing up for her family's right to health care? As I was walking the picket line, trucks were trying to get in, pushing their way through and almost running over the families that were their walking the line. Shame on Western Beverage for being violent and greedy corporate mongers and thinking only of their own profits. Who is going to protect the American worker if not unions like Teamsters?
So, as our family celebrates the 4th of July, please boycott Anheuser-Busch and Western Beverage with us. Come down and join our picket line at Terry and West 11th. The Teamster Union Local 206 would love to have you with us. It's time to stand up and say no more shameful un-American union busting. We the American workers have a right to our benefits. Teachers, Police Officers, Albertsons, Carpenters, Safeway. UPS, State Employees, you are all a part of this, we need your help.

The Activism for a better Cascadia begins 7/07/2007:
Join us for the Doug Honours Ceremony were we will gather to honour local/northwest activists and philanthropists by awarding them Doug Flags. This event is the start of the movement, and where else than where it all started 164 years ago at Champoeg (pronounced sham-POO-ee), Oregon. Champoeg features a unique combination of history, nature, and recreation. This is the site where Oregon's (i.e. Cascadia) first provisional government was formed by a historical vote in 1843.
At the event we will discuss future goals and initiatives, networking, participate in history tours, enjoy a potluck picnic, and enjoy a wonderful ceremony.
Reservation is for Riverside lot #3 and our event begins at 8am and ends at 8pm.
